ABOUT THE PIECE: In THE QUIET OR REPOSE OF SLEEP dramaturgical structures give way to a focus on simply floating and existing in an extended moment. It consists of a small number of notes that moves up and down the register in slowly ascending and descending figures. The material is intertwined in its own universe of stillness, slow movements and extremely sparse dynamics. The work is inspired by Feldman’s universe (it was premiered together with a work by him). But as he works with dissonances, I work exclusively with consonances (the piece consists only of “white keys”) where microtonal frictions, noise and timbre strive to create variation in a soundscape that is otherwise characterized by static and repetitive patterns: as if in an attempt to constantly shed new light – from different angles – on a museum object.
